The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, signalling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. He extended warm greetings and congratulations to Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to uphold the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice cultivated during the fasting period.
Tunji-Ojo also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to offer prayers for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, he encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged in society.
“The Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians,” the statement added.
