Evangelist Felicia Iyabo Ishola Ogunsola, a veteran Nollywood actress, has said that parents often develop preferences among their children based on attitude and behaviour, not gender, while cautioning against openly showing such feelings.
Speaking in a YouTube dialogue on family relationships and parental responsibility, Ogunsola explained that parents generally love their children equally in early childhood. Still, differences begin to emerge as children grow older and their individual behaviours become clearer.
According to her, there comes a time when parents pay closer attention to how their children relate with them, noting that some children show deeper care, concern and commitment to their parents’ wellbeing than others.
“Some children will genuinely support their parents and will not want them to suffer,” she said, adding that such actions naturally draw parents closer to those children.
She stressed that parental preference is not determined by gender but by conduct, character and willingness to stand by parents in difficult times.
However, the evangelist warned parents against openly displaying favoritism, saying it could create tension, division and conflict within the family.
“Parents must be careful not to show it, because it will cause trouble at home or within the family,” she advised.
Ogunsola urged parents to maintain fairness and wisdom in their dealings with all their children, even when individual behaviours differ, in order to preserve peace and unity in the home.
