The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has revealed that the Command arrested no fewer than 5,176 suspects for various crimes within his first six months in office.
Giwa, who assumed duty on March 11, 2025, stated this during a press briefing in Enugu to mark his half-year stewardship.
In a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the CP said his leadership was anchored on professionalism, proactivity, and people-friendly policing, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
The CP emphasised discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights, while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption, extortion, and unprofessional conduct among officers.

Part of the Recovered Items
On proactive policing, Giwa highlighted the successful security management of the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference, which was attended by over 20,000 participants without any recorded crime incident.
He also noted the deployment of joint security teams to Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani LGAs, restoring relative peace in herder-farmer flashpoints, and a significant reduction in violent activities linked to secessionist agitation through intelligence-driven policing.
Breakdown of arrests within the six-month period showed: 98 suspects for armed robbery, 87 for kidnapping, 50 for murder, 16 for unlawful possession of firearms, and 11 for rape or defilement. Another 112 were apprehended for cultism and related offenses, while 4,792 were arrested for other serious crimes including stealing, human trafficking, burglary, and vandalism.
The Command also rescued 113 kidnapped or abducted victims, and recovered 105 firearms, 271 rounds of ammunition, and 71 stolen vehicles.
Among the high-profile cases recorded were the arrest of a teenager for kidnapping and murdering his second cousin, ritual-related kidnappings, two sisters who abducted their kinsman for a N10 million ransom (later fully recovered), and a suspect who murdered his girlfriend in a hotel. Human traffickers attempting to move victims across state and national borders were also intercepted, with all victims rescued.
CP Giwa expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, the Enugu State Governor, other security agencies, and residents for their support in achieving the successes.
Looking ahead to the Ember Months, known for increased commercial and social activities, the CP assured that the Command has intensified security measures to prevent crime. He called on citizens and stakeholders to sustain their support to the Police in maintaining peace and security across the state.
