In response to the recent wave of deadly attacks that claimed numerous lives in Benue State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday, June 16, 2025, arrived in the state to assess the situation and reinforce security efforts.
Accompanied by top-ranking officers include the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni; DIG Logistics and Supply, Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, fdc; Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 4, AIG Zachariah Fera; and Commissioner of Police, Special Investigation Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle — the IGP began his visit with a courtesy call on the State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
During the meeting at the Government House, the IGP commiserated with Governor Alia over the tragic incidents.

He described the killings as “senseless” and “an act of terrorism,” assuring the governor and residents of the state that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Governor Alia expressed appreciation for the IGP’s timely visit and the sustained deployment of personnel and tactical resources in the state.
The IGP, alongside the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, also visited Yelwata Community in Guma Local Government Area, one of the hardest-hit areas. There, he inspected the destruction, met with local leaders, and reiterated the NPF’s commitment to reinforcing security in the region.
As part of immediate intervention efforts, the IGP directed the deployment of additional tactical teams and security assets to Benue. He further assigned DIG Kwazhi Yakubu to oversee operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.
Concluding his visit, IGP Egbetokun addressed officers at the Benue State Police Command Headquarters in Makurdi, where he pledged improved welfare and logistics support to boost their morale and effectiveness in tackling security challenges.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication, in line with the security agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to safeguarding lives and property in Benue and across the nation. The Force remains resolute in its mission to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and ensure peace returns to all affected communities.
