The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Monday, December 8, 2025, declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja, calling for a renewed era of professionalism, strategic communication, and public trust in policing.
In his keynote address, the IGP described the annual gathering as “a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening trust between the Police and citizens.”
He noted that modern policing is increasingly defined by transparency and the quality of interactions between security agencies and the public.
Egbetokun stressed that PPROs hold a central role in sustaining institutional credibility, particularly at a time when misinformation and perception-driven conflicts have intensified.

He warned that information management has now become a frontline policing priority.
Charging the spokespersons to “dominate the information space with truth, clarity, and professionalism,” the Police Chief urged PPROs across commands to be proactive, timely, and strategic in their engagements.
He cautioned against allowing narrative gaps that could give room for misinformation actors, directing that misleading content must be countered swiftly at the point of emergence.
While encouraging the responsible use of social media as a tool for transparency, he reiterated that falsehood should never be allowed to gain ground in the digital space.
Declaring the conference open, the IGP expressed confidence that the sessions would sharpen communication strategies, enhance police effectiveness, and improve the national image of the Nigeria Police Force.
He called for renewed commitment to excellence, integrity, and professionalism, noting that effective public engagement remains central to the future of policing in Nigeria.
