In a continued effort to honour and support families of officers who died in active service, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday, September 24, 2025, presented cheques worth ₦2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police personnel.
The ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, witnessed the presence of the Force Management Team, stakeholders from the insurance industry, and recipients of the benefits.
According to the police chief, the payment covers policy years from 2015 to 2025, including recoveries of long-outstanding claims pending for nearly a decade.

According to a statement signed by theForce Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, this latest disbursement is the 11th since Egbetokun assumed office, bringing the total amount disbursed under his leadership to over ₦24.2 billion, directly benefiting 9,735 families of fallen officers.
Describing the gesture as a “solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility,” the IGP reaffirmed that the welfare of officers, serving, retired, or deceased, remains a core priority of his administration.
He revealed that the Force is currently overhauling its welfare system to make it stronger, transparent, and fully digitized, ensuring prompt payment of entitlements.
Egbetokun also commended the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, the insurance companies for fulfilling their obligations, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for its continuous guidance.
He extended special appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for police welfare initiatives.
“Today’s exercise is a demonstration of our unshakable commitment to honouring the legacies of our departed colleagues. We owe it to them and their families to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten,” Egbetokun said.
