The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has revealed the reason for the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as a Verydarkman, saying that the main reason for his arrest was as a result of multiple petitions the commission received against him, accusing him of financial crimes.
According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, Otse was invited numerous times to address the allegations but failed to honour the invitations despite being reached through his known addresses and communication channels.
The EFCC noted that the petitions against Otse revolve around serious allegations of financial malfeasance that the Commission could not overlook.
The agency further clarified that while it is aware of Otse’s public criticisms of its operations, his arrest was solely based on the financial crime allegations and not influenced by his statements.
The Commission stated that any defamatory remarks made by the suspect would be handled by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
In line with standard procedure, the EFCC obtained the necessary Remand Order to keep Otse in custody during the investigation.
However, the Commission disclosed that he has been granted administrative bail and would be released upon meeting the stipulated bail conditions.
The EFCC expressed appreciation for the public’s interest in its activities, acknowledging the passion and engagement shown by Nigerians.
It urged the public to refrain from making assumptions about its motives, emphasising that the Commission remains committed to executing its mandate without fear or favour.
The EFCC assured that upon the completion of its investigation, appropriate charges would be filed against Otse.
