Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have arrested three suspected internet fraudsters linked to a Q-net-related scam and a fake university scheme operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Olaniyan Joshua, Oyetunde Julius Akano, and Victor Oluwale, were apprehended on Wednesday, May 1, 2025, in Abuja.
According to a statement released by the anti-graft agency, the trio operated under the name Mighty Infinity Millionaire Limited, posing as representatives of Q-net, a global e-commerce and direct selling company.
Q-net has since distanced itself from the suspects, denying any form of affiliation with them or their operations.
Further investigations revealed that the suspects were also running an illegal academic institution disguised as a university.
The fraudulent institution, reportedly offering Bachelor of Science degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Cybersecurity, Computer Studies, and Geology, conducted “lectures” in makeshift locations such as pavilions and under trees.
The EFCC disclosed that the suspects falsely claimed affiliation with Quest International University, Malaysia, to lure unsuspecting victims.
Students were charged exorbitant registration fees ranging from ₦1.2 million to ₦1.3 million, allowing the fraudsters to rake in hundreds of millions of naira from the bogus scheme.
This latest arrest follows a raid conducted by the EFCC on March 24, 2025, at the so-called “Q-net University” located in Compensation Layout, Gwagwalada, Abuja, where 133 suspects were apprehended.
The three men are currently in EFCC custody and undergoing interrogation. The Commission says further investigations are ongoing, and those found culpable will be prosecuted.
The EFCC continues to warn members of the public to be wary of schemes that promise unrealistic opportunities and to always verify the authenticity of any academic or business ventures.
