Men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 30 suspected internet fraudsters in Ilorin, following a targeted sting operation conducted by its Ilorin Zonal Directorate.
The operation, carried out on March 24, 2026, took place at two buildings in the Agbede community of Ilorin, Kwara State.
According to the commission, six of those arrested are students of Kwara State Polytechnic. Preliminary profiling by the EFCC indicated that the students were actively involved in internet fraud.
Items recovered during the operation include eight vehicles suspected to be proceeds of crime, as well as mobile phones and laptops believed to have been used in carrying out fraudulent activities.
The commission clarified that the operation had no connection with the polytechnic. It emphasised that its operatives did not enter the institution’s premises and that no academic activities were disrupted.
The EFCC also dismissed claims linking the arrests to any student protest, describing circulating videos suggesting such a connection as “contrived” and a misrepresentation of the facts.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism, the commission assured the public that all its operations are conducted with integrity. It added that channels for reporting misconduct by its personnel remain open, pledging to continue working in the interest of Nigerians.
