Family, friends, colleagues and the academic community today, May 9, 2025, celebrate a woman of substance and scholarly distinction, Dr Adebukola Olubunmi Ayoola, who turns 50.
Currently serving as a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Dr Ayoola’s journey to academic prominence is one steeped in determination, intellectual rigour and decades of service across the fields of Journalism, Political Science, and International Relations.
Dr Ayoola’s academic foundation reflects a rare blend of communications and international affairs. She began her academic sojourn at the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, where she earned a Diploma in Journalism in 1997. She proceeded to Imo State University, Owerri, bagging a Bachelor of Science degree (with honours, Second Class Upper Division) in Mass Communications in 2004.
However, her intellectual curiosity and global outlook led her to pivot toward International Relations. Between 2006 and 2016, she studied at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, earning a Postgraduate Diploma (2007), a Master of Science degree (2011), and a Doctor of Philosophy (2016) in International Relations.
Dr Ayoola’s professional career is equally illustrious. She began as a correspondent for The Hope Newspaper in Akure (1997–2000), eventually becoming a Desk Editor (2004–2008). Her shift to academia was both deliberate and impactful. From 2013 to 2017, she served as an Assistant Lecturer at Wesley University, Ondo, moving on to Bowen University, Iwo, where she rose from Lecturer I (2017–2019) to Senior Lecturer (2019–2021) in the Department of History and International Studies. Since 2022, she has brought her wealth of experience and scholarship to bear at KolaDaisi University, where she leads her department with vision and purpose.
Her academic output is recognised both locally and internationally, with conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications that explore critical issues in Nigerian foreign policy, international security, and global governance. She is especially noted for her research on the intersection of insecurity and foreign investment, a subject of vital importance in today’s globalised economy.
Beyond the accolades and academic milestones, Dr Ayoola is known for her mentorship, integrity, and unyielding commitment to student development. Her students and colleagues alike speak of her as a beacon of excellence, compassion, and strength.
Dr Adebukola Olubunmi Ayoola is also a proud wife and mother, gracefully balancing her professional and family life. Her 50th birthday is not just a personal milestone but a celebration of decades of influence in shaping minds, nurturing futures, and advancing the frontiers of knowledge in Nigeria and beyond.
