THE Oyo State Police Command has begun investigations into the alleged assault by a man identified as Taofeek Gbolagade on his pregnant wife.
Gbolagade, who has been declared wanted by the police, was said to have descended on his wife at their residence in the Ogbere Housing Estate, Ibadan, in the early hours of Tuesday.
It was gathered that Gbolagade had beaten his pregnant wife over Sahur, the pre-dawn meal usually taken by Muslims in preparation for fasting during Ramadan.
According to information, the meal was not prepared on time. The man reportedly beat the woman for over 30 minutes before she managed to escape and leave the house.
The incident was said to have been reported to the police by her family members, while the husband was also said to have fled home.
An eyewitness speaking on the incident said,
“This man always beats his wife over any little misunderstanding they have. I was able to record today’s event. He’s a Muslim so I think they had an argument over Sahur.
“This man didn’t mind that she was pregnant with his second child and started punching on her. She wailed for hours before she was able to flee to her parent’s house. Meanwhile, Taofeek has fled his house after being declared wanted by security personnel.”
