The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is set to unveil the Diaspora Home and Abroad Platform during the sixth edition of National Diaspora Day, scheduled for July 25 and 26 at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This announcement was made by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2025.
She described the new platform as a strategic initiative aimed at providing safe, reliable, and accessible housing solutions for Nigerians living abroad.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, this year’s Diaspora Day celebration is focused on fostering practical engagement with the Nigerian diaspora, moving beyond rhetoric to real development outcomes.
“In 2024 alone, Nigerians in the diaspora sent home over $20 billion, more than the country’s foreign direct investment. But beyond the numbers is a wealth of knowledge, skills, and global exposure that we must now channel into nation-building”, she noted.
The 2025 edition, themed “Optimising Formidable Diaspora Potentials for National Development and Growth,” is expected to draw over 1,200 physical participants and thousands more online from across the globe.
In a show of deepening ties with the global African community, 25 African American visitors will participate in the Abuja event, signaling a growing connection between Nigeria and the broader African diaspora.
Highlighting NiDCOM’s recent initiatives, Dabiri-Erewa mentioned ongoing projects like the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), Diaspora Focal Point Officers across states, the National Diaspora Policy, and the ongoing Diaspora Data Mapping effort, all designed to deepen structured engagement with Nigerians abroad.
As part of the two-day hybrid event, a Youth Empowerment Summit focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) will feature students from 14 Abuja-based schools.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Abiodun Akanbi, revealed that over 500 young people are expected to attend the STEM summit, which aims to inspire innovation and problem-solving among Nigerian youths.
Other activities lined up for the event include plenary sessions, investment fora, and strategic networking opportunities.
The celebration will conclude with the National Diaspora Merit Awards, recognising outstanding Nigerians making global impact.
