Covenant University situated in Ota Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, has once again claimed the top position among Nigerian universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024.
The privately owned university by the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, and Presiding Bishop of the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria, David Olaniyi Oyedepo, secured this prestigious ranking after excelling across various performance metrics, reaffirming its leadership in the nation’s higher education sector.
This year’s rankings evaluated 1,907 universities from 108 countries, using 18 performance indicators in five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
Covenant University outperformed other leading Nigerian institutions, with the University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology Akure, and University of Lagos ranking second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The 2024 rankings also highlighted shifts in the global higher education landscape, with over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications analyzed, alongside feedback from more than 68,000 scholars worldwide.
Other Nigerian universities in the top ten include Bayero University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University. The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, rounded out the top ten, securing 10th place.
