A Magistrate Court in Ijebu-Ode has ordered the remand of a 57-year-old man, Mr. Quadri Fatai Abiodun, after a viral video showed him violently beating his wife, Mrs. Rukayat Quadri, 50.
The incident, which sparked widespread public outrage, was brought before the court on Monday, September 22, 2025. Mr. Quadri was arraigned on a five-count charge filed by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.
According to the charge sheet, he is accused of unlawfully assaulting his wife with a stick and fist blows, inflicting domestic violence, causing injuries, issuing threats over a landed property, and conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
The offences contravene provisions of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006, and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law of Ogun State, 2017.
The magistrate ordered that Mr. Quadri be remanded in custody after the prosecution objected to an oral bail application, insisting that a formal bail application be filed.
The case was adjourned until October 17, 2025, for further hearing
