Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release businesswoman Aisha Achimugu on the Commission’s bail terms.
The court issued the directive on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, following revelations that Achimugu’s initial administrative bail granted through her lawyer had been revoked by the EFCC, which then imposed new bail conditions.
During the proceedings, her counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Kehinde Oguwumiju, sought a variation of the new bail terms.
However, the EFCC’s counsel, E.E. Iheanacho, SAN, opposed the application, and the court rejected it. Oguwumiju subsequently withdrew the request.
Achimugu is under investigation by the EFCC for alleged conspiracy, money laundering, obtaining by false pretence, corruption, and unlawful acquisition of properties. She was arrested on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and presented before the court the following day.
In a brief ruling, Justice Ekwo instructed the EFCC to expedite the processing of her bail and ordered all parties to report back on the level of compliance with the court’s directive on May 2, 2025.
