The Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Gwarinpa, Abuja, has ordered that former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, should continue to enjoy the administrative bail earlier granted him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Maryam Hassan gave the order on Thursday while delivering a ruling on the bail application filed on Ngige’s behalf by his lead counsel, Mr. Patrick Ikwueto (SAN).
In her ruling, the judge affirmed the subsistence of the EFCC’s administrative bail but imposed additional conditions to ensure Ngige’s continued availability for trial.
She directed the former minister to produce a surety who must be a serving director in the employment of the Federal Government and the owner of a landed property.
Justice Hassan further ordered that the surety should deposit the title documents of the property with the court, alongside his travel documents, pending the completion of the process for the retrieval of Ngige’s own international passport.
Ngige had earlier been granted administrative bail by the EFCC on self-recognition, with a directive that he submit his travel documents to the commission and provide one surety as part of the bail conditions.
The court’s ruling effectively maintains Ngige’s liberty while tightening oversight measures, as the case continues before the FCT High Court.
