The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared another candidate as the winner of the Eti-Osa House of Representatives ticket.
Nigerian music star turned politician, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, had declared that he won the primary election.
According to his aide, Kennedy Salami, he said that Banky W had a landslide victory.
Salami stated, “We have just concluded the elections and he has won.
“We secured the ticket for the House Representatives of Eti-Osa PDP. So, we are moving on to the next. It was a landslide; we won 28 to 3 votes.”
In April, the music star announced on social media that he was once again aiming to represent the people of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He tweeted, “We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking is over. It’s time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move.”
In a viral video, the votes of the primaries were counted and closely monitored by the delegates and members of the party.
In a twist, PDP’s Electoral Officer, Prof. Babatunde Akinsanya said another candidate, Sam Aiboni, won the election.
The party said Sam polled 23 votes to defeat his opponent Banky W who had 7 votes.
Activist and Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju Thursday took to Twitter to lambast the PDP for the action.
Deji who tweeted, “PDP is cursed. Banky W didn’t get the ticket according to their latest evil scheme, all they care about is dollars…Kai, I’m sincerely tired of this country. We are in serious mess. The generation of our children are in trouble.”
Jeff Okoroafor @JeffOkoroafor tweeted: “Imagine coming up after 48hrs to say that the result announced for @BankyW in a viral video we all saw and watched, was from another faction, really? Why wait this long to debunk it? Shame on you @OfficialPDPNig”.
Daniel Omokhojie @ikhanvbode tweeted: “Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything. In PDP, those who counts vote in front of camera decides nothing. Those who present the result decides everything. In doubt? Ask BankyW”.
Banky W first announced his ambition in 2018 and contested for the House of Representatives seat under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP) but lost to Ibrahim Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
