A Nigerian popular actor, Alhaji Kareem Adepoju, popularly known as Baba Wande, has lamented the decline in the use of the Yoruba language, stressing that it is not good enough for the Yoruba people, as they are replacing their language with English.
Baba Wande expressed this while featuring on Masoyinbo’s programme, meant to promote the Yoruba Language.
The actor noted that it was sad that Yoruba indigenes could not speak pure Yoruba language without code-switching or code-mixing, urging the return to the speaking and usage of Yoruba Language.
He stated, “Code-mixing or code-switching while speaking the Yoruba language is a significant challenge for everyone who identifies as a Yoruba native. A significant portion of the Yoruba language is in danger of extinction.”
