Festurs Keyamo (SAN), the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to place popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1), on a no-fly list following an altercation with ValueJet staff at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Minister described the confrontation, which involved Kwam 1 physically obstructing an aircraft from taxiing on the runway, as a “temporary loss of sanity and control on both sides,” warning that it could have resulted in fatalities.
“Contrary to what the agents of Kwam 1 have claimed, he constantly moved his position on the tarmac to actually block the aircraft from taxiing to take position on the runway for take-off. This is totally unacceptable behaviour,” the Minister stated, adding that such conduct is “akin to a hostage situation.”
The Minister noted that video footage of the incident clearly showed the musician’s “recalcitrant behaviour,” while also criticizing the response of the aircraft’s Captain and Pilot for attempting to taxi without ensuring the safety of the passenger who was obstructing the aircraft’s path.
“Both sides breached standard safety protocol as required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),” the Minister said.
While commending the NCAA for temporarily suspending the pilot’s licence, the Minister expressed disapproval over the apparent one-sided nature of the disciplinary action, insisting that equal measures be applied to both parties.
“In the circumstance, I have also directed the NCAA to place Kwam 1 on a no-fly list pending further and full investigation, just like the Captain and Pilot. All airlines, both domestic and international, should immediately be informed of this directive, and anyone who flouts it risks withdrawal of their operating licence,” the statement read.
