The former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has appointed Professor Abass Aderemi Adedibu as a member of the Governing Council of the American University of Nigeria (AUN).
In an appointment letter personally signed by the founder of the institution, Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa and Nigeria’s Vice President between 1999 and 2007, the appointment was stated to take immediate effect.
The letter reads: “In line with the regulations of the National Universities Commission (NUC), for the establishment of a Governing Council for the American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State, I have the privilege to appoint you as a member of this council with immediate effect for a term of four (4) years. This appointment is renewable for a further period of four (4) years.”
“You were considered for this appointment because of your track record of achievements and impeccable character, which distinguished you as a beacon of excellence and role model for our institution. The establishment of this governing council and your appointment as a member, I believe, will speed up the consolidation of the steady progress recorded, and will help position the American University of Nigeria for even greater performance, growth, and development”, the letter added.
Professor Aderemi Adedibu is the first child of the late High Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Akanbi Adedibu, widely known as the garrison Commander and strongman of Ibadan Politics.
