A seasoned journalist, Lanre Arogundade, former chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and ex-President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has been elected National President of the Ekiti Parapo College Ido Ekiti Old Students Association (EPCOSA).
The election results, announced by the spokesperson of the EPCOSA Electoral Committee, Professor Oluwatoyin Babatunde, came at the Association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Reunion held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the school hall.
According to a statement signed by Ayo Ajiboye, EPCOSA’s Public Relations Officer, Arogundade secured a landslide victory, polling 275 votes to defeat his opponent, Prof. Olu Adeleye, who garnered 32 votes.
He succeeds another media professional, Dotun Adekanmbi, who led the Association for four years and oversaw the successful celebration of the college’s 70th anniversary in 2024.
Arogundade will head the new executive committee for the 2025–2027 service year.
In his acceptance speech, the journalist, author and Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC) promised to consolidate on past achievements while charting a new course for the Association.
He said the new executive would harmonise the visions and suggestions of members, Sets and Branches to produce a strategic development plan for the next two years, aimed at driving the growth and development of the college.
“The new Exco of our Association, EPCOSA, comprises individuals with diverse professional backgrounds whose collective knowledge would help drive the goal of securing the school’s environment, upgrading facilities, motivating the students, and improving the welfare of the staff. With the support and cooperation of members, the new Exco team will surmount every challenge ahead of us”,Arogundade said.
Other elected officers include Dr. Olusola Ogunsina (Vice-President); Engr. Deji Afolabi (General Secretary); Adeola Babatunde (Assistant Secretary); Ilesanmi Adesuyi (Financial Secretary/Treasurer); Samson Ekundayo (Auditor); Kayode Okimoba (Legal Adviser); and Ayo Ajiboye (Public Relations Officer/Social Secretary).
Founded on January 29, 1954, Ekiti Parapo College, Ido Ekiti (EKPACO) is the first and only Ekiti-wholly owned community post-primary institution, built on the vision of Ekiti sons and daughters. EPCOSA serves as the collective body of its old students.
