Troops of the Nigerian Army have foiled a coordinated midnight attack on communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, repelling more than 300 terrorists in a fierce, two-hour gun battle.
The attack, launched from multiple fronts around 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2025, was thwarted by soldiers of the 28 Task Force Brigade, who had been on high alert following early intelligence reports.
According to military authorities, the troops swiftly took battle positions and engaged the insurgents with “tactical manoeuvre and superior firepower,” preventing them from breaching the communities.
As daylight approached, the terrorists reportedly fled in disarray toward the Azir axis of Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Damboa–Biu Main Supply Route.
The Nigerian Army said 25 Brigade troops were immediately deployed to predetermined ambush positions around Azir Bridge, supported by surveillance from an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also joined the operation, deploying a Super Tucano aircraft to disrupt the terrorists’ withdrawal. With ground forces closing in, the fleeing insurgents scattered, allowing troops to break up their retreat.
The Army confirmed that no personnel or equipment was lost during the operation, describing the outcome as evidence of the troops’ “combat readiness, professionalism and resilience.”
Exploitation operations around Chibok are ongoing as troops intensify efforts to track down escaping terrorists and restrict their movement. Military authorities added that video footage showing the mass withdrawal of the attackers has been recovered and is being analysed for further action.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens and defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
