The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, alongside his wife, Abiwumi, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The visit marked one of Oba Owoade’s first major engagements since ascending the throne, symbolising a gesture of solidarity and mutual respect between the traditional institution and the federal government.
Present at the reception were the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, who both witnessed the warm exchange between the monarch and the President.

During the visit, discussions centred on fostering unity, promoting cultural heritage, and strengthening collaboration between traditional authorities and government structures to enhance national development.
The Alaafin’s visit is seen as a continuation of the long-standing tradition of mutual respect between the Oyo Kingdom and the nation’s leadership, reflecting the enduring influence of traditional rulers in contemporary governance.
