The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed flight disruptions to several Middle East destinations following widespread airspace closures triggered by recent United States–Israeli strikes on Iran.
In a statement issued Saturday, FAAN said the closures were already affecting operations to and from the region. Flights from Nigerian airports to Middle East destinations, including services operated by Emirates and Qatar Airways, have been cancelled or delayed.
The authority advised affected passengers to contact their airlines directly for updates on flight status and rebooking arrangements. FAAN added that it is monitoring developments in collaboration with aviation authorities and airline operators.
The disruptions follow a wave of military strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, after which Iran, Iraq, Israel, Syria, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates announced partial or full airspace closures.
Major international carriers, including Air France, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and Air India, also suspended or cancelled flights across parts of the region.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a security advisory urging Nigerians in Iran and neighbouring Gulf states to remain vigilant, avoid strategic locations and comply with local authorities. The government said its embassies in Tehran and Gulf countries are on alert to provide consular assistance, reiterating that the safety of Nigerian citizens abroad remains a top priority.
