Gloria Chiki, the 12 years old only child of the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Federal Chapter Territory (FCT) chapter, Annah Daniel, has died in Abuja.
Gloria, who was buried on Friday, October 1, 2021 amidst torrent of tears, was said to be a very good and obedient girl.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in a statement issued in Abuja, called on the bereaved NAWOJ boss to be courageous.
The statement released in Abuja, jointly signed by Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche and Ochiaka Ugwu, Chairman and Secretary of Council, respectively, noted that the council received the news of the death of the young Gloria with rude shock.
It stated that the late Gloria was not only an interesting child to be with, but an epitome of good character and conduct with the fear of God.
“The entire members of NUJ FCT Council condole with the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter, Comrade Annah Daniel, over the death of her 12-year old daughter, Gloria.
“We also sympathise with the entire NAWOJ members and enjoin the members of NUJ FCT Council to identify with their colleague in her moment of grief and, pray God to grant the bereaved the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“There is no doubt that the deceased will be greatly missed by all that had come in contact with the late Gloria Chiki,” the statement concluded.
It was gathered that Gloria died at the Nigeria Customs Service Hospital, Karu, Abuja, on Thursday, September 30, 2021.
A prominent female journalist in Abuja, Kemi Yesufu, in a post on Facebook on Friday described the death as a big blow to media practitioners in Abuja.
She said : “It’s nightmarish Independence Day for journalists in Abuja. We aren’t celebrating, rather we are in mourning. We joined family members and friends of our sister and colleague, the NAWOJ FCT chairperson, Anne Daniel, in mourning her daughter, who passed on yesterday.
” It indeed was a sad moment burying a little girl so loved and cherished by her parents and all who also loved her. May Gloria’s soul rest in peace. May God console Anne. Words fail me. Thanks, Emmanuel Ogbeche for providing good leadership to NUJ FCT. Thanks for all you do.
“Thanks to my dear colleagues for your immense show of love to Anne.”
