A Seventh Day Adventist faith based Nigerian university, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has recorded its highest number of graduating students in history, with a total of 3,578 graduates conferred with various degrees on Sunday, July 27, 2025, during this year’s convocation ceremony.
Earlier, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, the institution hooded 217 doctoral graduands, out of which two international students from Rwanda and Liberia, captains of industry, professor, dean, bank executives across Africa, legal consultants, government advisers and a 71 year old man were among. This is also the highest doctoral graduands produced in the school compared to the number of doctoral graduands produced in previous years.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ademola Tayo, who made the announcement during the institution’s 2025 convocation ceremony, stated that 243 out of the undergraduate graduating students earned First-Class degrees, describing the feat as a significant milestone in the institution’s journey toward academic excellence.
He said, “This is the largest graduating class in the history of this institution. Today is not just about another set of outstanding students completing their academic journey, it is deeply personal for me. It marks my final convocation as Vice Chancellor of this great university.”
Reflecting on his decade-long leadership, Professor Tayo expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve saying, “Ten years ago, I embraced the privilege and responsibility of leading Babcock University with a vision to build on our strong Adventist foundation, consolidate on past achievements, and elevate the university to greater heights in global relevance, academic excellence, and moral leadership.”
The outgoing VC, who is set to hand over on December 1, 2025, highlighted numerous achievements under his administration including full accreditation of all programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the successful introduction of four new accredited courses: Cyber Security, Information Systems, Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, and a Master’s programme in One Health.
He also announced the establishment of fully functional School of Engineering and School of Environmental Sciences, as well as the expansion of programme offerings in both fields.
He noted, “We have institutionalised a culture of innovation, accountability, and integrity, all marks of sustainable leadership in the 21st century,” Professor Tayo said, noting that these achievements were documented in an 11-page account of his stewardship.
“As I prepare to pass the baton of leadership, I do so with peace and pride, knowing that Babcock is not just surviving, but thriving,” he concluded.
Part of the highlight of the event are the confirment of honourary doctoral degrees on Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei- commencement speaker from Zimbabwe and Elder Enock Olaleye Dare.
Also, presentation of the university prize as Lawal Fatima Oyinsa, got President/Vice Chancellor Award for being the overall best performance graduating student at undergraduate programme in leadership, academics, community and spiritual services. Also, she was awarded the Senior Vice President overall highest CGPA of 4.97 award at the undergraduate level.
Overall highest CGPA award for part time programme went to Michael Blessing Nneka with 4.77 CGPA, for BUCODEL category, Sulaiman Rakiyat Oindamola got it with the CPGA OF 4.83.
Akinpelu Kehinde and Charles Innocentia Nkiruka got the overall highest CGPA of the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), with the two tie with the CGPA 4.93.
For Master’s degree, Adeniyi Joseph and Adeniyi Adeniji Morade got the award for the overall highest CGPA with the duo tie with CGPA 4.89.
Olugbogi Japhet gor overall highest CGPA for Mphil with the 4.84 CGPA.
Drs. Alabi Oladele Adenibi and Obechi Emmanuel Obiuto won the overall CGPA for the PhD graduating students with 4.91 CGPA.
